How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?
Never a failure. Only an opportunity to learn. This is something that took me a long time to learn. In my lifetime, I have been a cashier, a housekeeper, an executive assistant, a recruiter, a merchandiser, and much much more. I currently work as a Vocational Evaluator helping people find out what they want to be when they grow up.
All of my clients have some form of disability. Some form of impairment that prevents them from working or finding work through normal channels. Some are kids just getting started, and some are adults who are having to change careers. I help them find a path. I can relate to this.
I have my current position because of having to sit down in my mid 40’s and determine how I was going to find joy in working again. I had been given one more life altering diagnosis, and needed to find a field I could work, help others, and help myself. Every job, every lost job, every medical setback has made it where I can honestly look at the person in front of me, and let them know there is a future beyond where you are. You are more than your diagnosis, and you can do more if you want.
I am successful in my field, and I am back in school for more credentials to further that success. Failure is only failure if you don’t learn something from it. I have chosen to learn from mine and share that knowledge. I am grateful for every setback. It has brought me to where I am today.
